How to Write a Professional Security CV (Includes Free Template)

Updated: 3 days ago

If you're new to the security industry — or even if you’ve been around for a while — writing a strong CV can feel tricky. What should you include? How should you describe your experience? What if you’ve never worked in security before? Don’t worry, we’ve created a free, fill in the blank CV template just for you. All you need to do is follow a few simple steps and you’ll have a professional, job-ready CV ready to send to employers.

🎯 Why Your CV Matters in Security

Your CV is your first impression. Employers will often look at it before they look at your SIA licence. A good CV helps you:

  • Get interviews faster

  • Stand out from other applicants

  • Show employers you’re serious, reliable, and ready for the job

🧭 Step-by-Step CV Guide

1️⃣ Start With Your Contact Details

Include:

  • Full name

  • Phone number

  • Email address

  • Home address (or at least your city/postcode)

  • SIA Licence number (if you already have one)

Make sure these are correct. If they can’t contact you, they won’t hire you.

2️⃣ Write a Short “About Me” Section

This is where you tell them who you are in 3–4 lines. Example:

A reliable, alert and customer-focused individual with a strong interest in public safety and conflict prevention. Trained in physical intervention and emergency first aid. Seeking a Door Supervisor or Security Officer role where I can contribute to a safe and professional environment.

Keep it focused and professional. No long life stories.

3️⃣ List Your Key Skills

Use bullet points or short lines. If you’re using our template, just tick the ones that apply to you. Examples:

  • Conflict resolution

  • Excellent customer service

  • Physical intervention (if trained)

  • CCTV monitoring

  • Emergency first aid

  • Working independently or in a team

💡 Tip: If you’re new to security, mention transferable skills from retail, warehouse, or hospitality jobs (like communication or handling pressure).

4️⃣ Add Your Education & Training

If you’ve completed your SIA course, include it here:

Level 2 Door Supervisor – SWBM Academy – 2025; Emergency First Aid at Work – SWBM Academy – 2025, etc.

You can also list:

  • Fire Marshal

  • Health & Safety

  • Manual Handling (if completed)

If you’re still waiting to take the course, you can write:

Booked – Door Supervisor Course (SWBM Academy, August 2025)

5️⃣ Show Work Experience (Even If It’s Not Security)

List your most recent jobs — even if they’re in another industry. Use this format:

  • Job title

  • Company name & dates

  • Short description

  • 2–3 bullet points showing what you did

🟢 Example:

Retail Assistant – Tesco Express (2022–2024)Provided frontline customer service, prevented shoplifting incidents, and handled minor disputes calmly. Managed customer complaints Reported suspicious behaviour to management Worked night shifts with minimal supervision

If you’ve worked in security before — even informally — include it.

6️⃣ Add “References Available Upon Request”

Simple and professional. If an employer wants references, they’ll ask.
