COURSE OVERVIEW

Paediatric First Aid course enables learners to gain the knowledge and set of practical skills needed to deal with a range of emergency first aid situations that arise when looking after children. It is primarily designed for those who are responsible for children under the age of 8 and gives delegates a thorough breakdown of common illnesses and injuries related to children and babies.

Who is it designed for?

It is designed for anyone who deals with children and babies, whether they are private individuals or involved in business:

  • Nannies

  • Child carers

  • Education staff

  • Pre-school staff

  • Au-pairs

  • Parents and/or grandparents.

In fact, it is for anyone who wants the knowledge and skills to deal with an emergency first aid situation effectively.

As well as covering many common illnesses/conditions that may affect children and babies including: 

 

Choking, Smoke/Fume Inhalation, Asthma, Electric Shocks, Anaphylactic Shock, Shock, Wounds & Bleeding, Burns, Concussion, Cerebral Compression & Skull Fractures, Fainting, Febrile Seizures, Epilepsy, Diabetes, Fractures, Spinal Injury, Dislocations, Soft Tissue Injuries, Eye Injuries, Bites & Stings, Poisoning, Meningitis, Effects of Heat & Cold, Croup.

Course duration

The course duration is 2 days.

ID requirements

• a valid passport (any nationality)
• a signed UK photocard driving licence
• a valid warrant card issued by HM forces or the police
• another photographic ID card, e.g. employee ID card, student ID card, travel card etc.

How is the qualification assessed?

This qualification is assessed by the following two methods:

  1. Practical assessment - Learners must demonstrate the practical first aid skills, as indicated within the assessment paperwork.

  2. Theory assessment - Learners must answer a series of multiple-choice questions as outlined within the assessment paperwork.

Results

Results are available within 10 working days of the exams. HIGH PASS RATE

Certification

Successful candidates will receive a Level 3 Paediatric First Aid certificate from a recognised awarding body within England and Wales. It is valid for a period of 3 years and can be renewed by attending another Level 3 Paediatric First Aid course.

Progression opportunities

Upon successful completion of this qualification, learners may wish to continue their development by undertaking one of the following qualifications:
• Level 2 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW)
• Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (FAW)
• Level 3 Award in First Aid Response
• Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support and Safe Use of an Automated External Defibrillator
